چکیده

The hyperbolic-equation system (HES) approach is applied to the calculation of a Hall thruster using the hybrid particle-in-cell (PIC) method. The HES approach enables accurate computations of magnetized electron fluids in quasi-neutral plasmas with a simple structured mesh. SPT-100 thruster is assumed as the calculation condition. The calculation results indicate that the Bohm criterion is satisfied for the channel walls. Also, the Boltzmann relation is confirmed in the region of strong magnetic confinement. These facts prove that the HES approach accurately calculates the boundary condition of wall sheath, and the characteristics of magnetized electron fluid in Hall thrusters.

The comparison of two high-order semi-discrete central schemes for solving hyperbolic conservation laws

This work presents two high-order, semi-discrete, central-upwind schemes for computing approximate solutions of 1D systems of conservation laws. We propose a central weighted essentially non-oscillatory (CWENO) reconstruction, also we apply a fourth-order reconstruction proposed by Peer et al., and afterwards, we combine these reconstructions with a semi-discrete central-upwind numerical flux ...

Self-similar solutions‎ ‎of the Riemann problem for two-dimensional systems of conservation‎ ‎laws

In this paper, a new approach is applied to study the self-similar solutions of 2×2 systems of nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws. A notion of characteristic directions is introduced and then used to construct local and smooth solutions of the associated Riemann problem

Modeling of anomalous electron mobility in Hall thrusters

Accurate modeling of the anomalous electron mobility is absolutely critical for successful simulation of Hall thrusters. In this work, existing computational models for the anomalous electron mobility are used to simulate the UM/AFRL P5 Hall thruster a 5 kW laboratory model in a two-dimensional axisymmetric hybrid particle-in-cell Monte Carlo collision code. Comparison to experimental results i...

Multiscale Modeling of Hall Thrusters

Multiscale Modeling of Hall Thrusters Hall thrusters are efficient space propulsion devices that produce thrust by accelerating quasineutral plasma. The thruster consists of a channel with one end open to the ambient environment. The neutral propellant is injected at the closed end and is ionized by electrons produced by an externally mounted cathode. A radial magnetic field is applied across t...

Anomalous electron mobility modeling in Hall thrusters

Accurate modeling of the anomalous electron mobility is crucial for successful simulation of Hall thrusters. Existing computational models for the anomalous electron mobility are used to simulate the UM/AFRL P5 Hall thruster in a 2D axisymmetric hybrid PIC-MCC code. Comparison to experimental results indicates that while these computational models can be tuned to reproduce the correct thrust or...
